How many calories does my pet need each day?

Making sure your pet receives the right calorie content through their diet varies and depends on several factors.  For example, if your pet extremely active and young? Do you have an older, senior pet who isn't as active as they once were? Helping your pet maintain the right caloric intake to maintain, lose or gain weight will lead to a healthier, happier life for your pet.

As a general guideline, on average, dogs need about 30 calories per pound of body weight per day to maintain their current weight. Small, active dogs weighing less than 20 pounds can use up to 40 calories per pound per day while large dogs over 50 pounds, can use as little as 20 calories per pound per day to maintain their current weight.  Cats typically need between 250 to 300 calories per day.

Exact calorie needs are based on activity level and age and overall health.
